Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
1. Introduction
This voluntary statement sets out the actions taken by Willow Creek Care Ltd to identify, prevent, and mitigate the risks of modern slavery and human trafficking within our business operations and supply chains. While we operate below the statutory financial threshold required by Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, we maintain a strict zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery, human trafficking, and any form of forced labour or exploitation. We are committed to acting ethically, transparently, and with integrity in all our business relationships.
2. Our Business and Structure
We are a startup provider of supported living and domiciliary care services based in the UK.
Our Services: We provide specialised support services designed to help adults live independently.
Our Service Users: We support adults aged 18 to 65 with mild mental health conditions, autism, neurodiversity, learning disabilities, and alcohol or drug dependency.
CQC Status: Our services are currently delivered on a non-Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulated basis, focusing on housing-related support, community integration, and independent living skills.
3. Our Operations and Supply Chains
Because we operate locally within the social care sector, our supply chains are short and carry a lower risk of structural modern slavery compared to goods-producing sectors. Our primary supply chains include:
Employment, recruitment, and staffing agencies for support workers.
Professional services (such as IT, legal, accounting, and insurance providers).
Office supplies, utilities, and facilities maintenance.
4. Risk Assessment and Due Diligence
We recognise that the social care sector can face risks related to the exploitation of frontline workers. To mitigate these risks, we implement the following due diligence measures:
Safer Recruitment: We conduct rigorous background checks on all employees, including Right to Work in the UK verification, Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks, and thorough reference histories.
Fair Pay: We ensure that all directly employed staff are compensated fairly and paid at least the National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage directly into their own validated bank accounts.
Agency Compliance: When utilising third-party staffing or recruitment agencies, we only work with reputable organisations that can demonstrate compliance with UK employment laws and anti-slavery principles.
5. Relevant Policies
We operate internal policies to ensure we conduct business in an ethical and transparent manner:
Whistleblowing Policy: We encourage all employees, contractors, service users, and families to report any concerns regarding malpractice, exploitation, or poor treatment without fear of retaliation.
Safeguarding Policies: Our robust adult safeguarding policies detail the clear indicators of modern slavery and human trafficking and outline explicit reporting pathways to local authority safeguarding teams.
6. Training and Awareness
To ensure a high level of understanding of the risks of modern slavery in our business, we provide guidance to our management team and frontline support workers. This includes training staff on how to spot the signs of modern slavery, exploitation, and financial abuse among both colleagues and the vulnerable adults we support.
7. Approval
This statement represents our commitment to ethical practices for the current financial year and will be reviewed annually.
